2021 Chignik Salmon Fishery
Disaster Funds Distributed
On May 9, 2023, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce made a disaster determination for the Alaska Chignik Salmon Fishery, 2021, under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act in response to a November 15, 2021, request from Governor Dunleavy. NOAA Fisheries allocated $4,989,902 to address losses to the affected management areas. The State of Alaska, in consultation with stakeholders and NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service, drafted a spend plan and forwarded that plan to the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC), the administrator of the federal grant for disaster funds. The application period opened in December 2025, and distribution of direct payments was completed by March 2026.
The spend plan allocated funds to help partially restore losses to fishery participants impacted by the 2021 Chignik salmon fishery disaster and for research. Research funds will be distributed by competitive bid for scientific research projects. Please follow updates on: https://psmfc.org/
