2020 and 2021 Norton Sound Red King Crab Fisheries
Disaster Relief Applications Open

On May 9, 2023, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce made a disaster determination for the Alaska Norton Sound Red King Crab Fisheries, 2020 and 2021, under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act in response to a March 21, 2022, request from Governor Dunleavy. NOAA Fisheries allocated $2,804,214 to address losses to the affected management areas. The State of Alaska, in consultation with stakeholders and NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service, drafted a spend plan and forwarded that plan to the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC), the administrator of the federal grant for disaster funds.

PSMFC opened the application period for permit holders and crew members in March 2026. Notifications with a weblink to the application portal, unique 8-digit ID, and more information were mailed to eligible permit holders. Permit holder applications must be submitted through PSMFC's online portal by June 1, 2026.
